Closed Tuesdays. Dinner on Saturday 18 May 2024. We were seated and served water immediately but I (foolishly) asked for the wine list from Jasmine. Even though the house wine is really lovely! One litre of house white at €13, two starters of Insalata Mista (excellent mixture of lettuce, tomatoes, radicchio and fennel) at €5 each, one Pesce Spada alla Marinara (a beautiful large piece of swordfish with cherry tomatoes and olives) at €16 and one Tagliatelle alla Siracusa (ribbons of pasta with tomatoes, basil, capers and oregano) at €13 cost £59. I promised to listen to Jasmine regarding the wine selection this September! Dinner on Thursday 16 May 2024 We remembered each other from last year immediately! One bottle of water, one litre of lovely house white at €13 (after bringing us a half litre. Hang on! We're English!), one Verdure Grigliate at €6, one Caponata at €7, one Pesce Spada alla Grigliate at €15 (this year with a marvellous accompaniment of dressed tomatoes plus lettuce and fennel) and one Spigola alla Griglia (sea bass) at €16 cost €64. Dinner on Monday 2 October 2023 Very busy tonight but we got seated at our reserved table immediately. Water, a good litre of house white @ €12, two times Insalata Mista @ €5 each, mains of Paccheri alla Norma (large cylinders of pasta with aubergines and ricotta cheese) @ €13 and Spigola alla Griglia (grilled sea bass) at €15 plus free after dinner digestifs (carob and orange zest) cost €55. We said goodbye to Jasmine and Simone with the promise of return visits next May. They are so nice and treat us like welcome friends! Dinner on Saturday 30 September 2023 Unbelievable! When we reserved a table we were remembered from our last visits! Water, a good litre of house white @ €12, starters of grilled vegetables @ €6 and mixed salad @ €5, mains of Pesce Spada alla Marinara @ €14 and Bigoli Carrettiera @ €11 and two coffees cost €56. Dinner on Saturday 13 May 2023 Once again, people were turning up at an exceptional but small restaurant in Ortigia on a Saturday night at 20.00 and looking surprised when they were asked (politely) to wait for ten or twenty minutes until a table became available. The young woman who served us (Jasmine, who looks like a young and glamorous Thandie Newton) remembered us straight away from three days ago. She nodded and smiled at us as we entered and led us to the same table as last time. (È diventa la nostra tavola!) As usual, we ordered a bottle of water and half litres of red and white wine at €6.50 each. I had Insalata Mista at €5 and Pesce Spada alla Siciliana (Sicilian swordfish with capuliato or dried tomatoes, olives, capers and balsamic vinegar plus two large wheels of grilled aubergines) at €16. My wife had Insalata Arance at €5 and Spaghetti alla Matalotta di Pesce (spaghetti with fish of the day, cherry tomatoes, oregano and capers) at €14. We could not even manage espressos! The total bill was only €59.50. Dinner on Wednesday 10 May 2023 Very busy and exceptionally good value restaurant so you better make a reservation! I had Verdure Grigliato (aubergine and zucchini) at €6 and Pesce Spada alla Marinara (swordfish with capers, oregano and cherry tomatoes) at €14. My wife had Caponata at €6 and Orata alla Mediterranea (sea bream with clams and mussels) at €17. We had two half litres of wine, one red and one white, at €6.50 each and a bottle of water. All the food and the wine were excellent. The total bill was €62.50.
